No, it is not. The NW sterilizer utilizes frictional heating to heat the waste up to about 150°C by shredding the waste into a dry powder. The sterilization process results in the inactivation of pathogens.
Frictional heat treatment does not involve incineration, no Pops ( Persistent Organic Pollutants) are produced or released into the environment. One of the most important characteristics is that the pressure inside the vessel is always negative, an important difference with the autoclaves. Steam is not injected inside the chamber during the cycle so the chamber is never under pressure and the peak temperature achieved is higher than average temperatures of other technologies.
